Riona and Siren!
Max in reply to Layfon 4 years ago ( 6.5.2 )
Since she and 4 of the 8 PADBT characters are Japanese high school students (the other 4 are from the fictional game kingdom and have more english/european names like "Patricia") the name is definitely just "Riona" (no L in Japanese) but the pronunciation is almost the same as the western name "Leona" because the R sound in Japanese is sort of half way between an English R and English L sound (because of this Japanese characters with R names often get translated as L name equivalents in English IE. Ruka = Luca). Also in none of the versions is the name ever "Rinoa", it's "Riona" (or potentially Leona).
巨人に食われた学生 in reply to Max 4 years ago ( 6.5.2 )
It's exactly as what Max said. In Japanese, the リ is a letter that sounds like both an R and a L. Because of this, when you try to translate Japanese names with a リ in them, some people may use "Ri" while others use "L". Technically, if you were to change リオナ into ローマ字(Romaji), it would end up as "Riona" since "Leona" would technically say ィオナ, which you can see is not right. However, when trying to say a Japanese word with a リ or り(which is the hiragana version) to someone that can't understand English that well, you can say either "Ri" or "L" since they can't distinguish the difference between the pronunciation of L and R. This becomes a problem though when you begin to say English words with L or R in them. For example, they won't be able to tell the difference between rice and lice, so be careful.

It is most likely simply what Google Translate gave him as a result. Considering that the light girls name is Patricia, I'm willing to bet this is Leona.

Actually, i wasn't doing google translate, i was reading off katakana. LITERALY
DEBT 4 years ago ( 6.4.3 )
Pretty sure it's Leona... in eigo, at least:P
Lewa-Kal in reply to -Striku- 4 years ago ( 6.4.3 )
This prompted me to look up another Leona. In this case, Leona from King of Fighters. Interestingly, the katakana used for their names are different. Cool stuff. I'm willing to bet that both are read as "Leona" though. Hope we find out by way of an NA release for these guys. Of course, seeing as how we haven't even received PaDZ yet, that could be a while... :(

This argument seems a bit silly now that the card's in English, but at least justice was served for Leona.
Pikagami in reply to 巨人に食われた学生 1 year ago ( 9.5.1 )
The same could be said for other English words with L or R in them such as right/light, crash/clash, fresh/flesh, breed/bleed, row/low, and rake/lake. English translations with リ can lead to some awkward mistranslations at times.
juna in reply to DEBT 4 years ago ( 6.4.3 )
Or, you know, it's a real Japanese name written out in katakana for stylistic purposes.
Layfon 4 years ago ( 6.5.2 )
US name refers as Leona while JP name literally means Rinoa. Therefore, Rinoa = Leona and both are the same name.. Whether you guys wanna call her Leona or Rinoa is all the same.. There is no need for any debate..
kemonomimi in reply to Lewa-Kal 4 years ago ( 6.4.5 )
There isn't an L sound in japanese... is it an adapted name from the west? That would explain it, because the katakana would definitely be an r sound like striker said.

Getting sick of this >:( what are these doing in the freakin rem if they're from a collab?! I've managed to come up with the light, wood, and now the water of this series! These aren't worth stones any more than the stupid dragon swordsmen are! These are even worse trolls than the swordsmen actually. This is ridiculous!

The multiplayer boost makes this not a bad sub for bmyr. Actually a really good sub assuming you are multiplaying. Short cool down means you could add an assist and then use the active skill after. Perhaps arena potential. Maybe.

I pulled this right after pulling Gamble Mage. #REMfail
On the plus side, I like the show... so I'll keep her in the collection.
